New MMO Releasing in October Confirmed as Day One Xbox Game Pass Game

There’s a new MMO releasing next month, and the moment it releases, it will be available via Xbox Game Pass, meaning the subscription now has nine day-one games planned for October. How long it will be available via the Microsoft subscription service, we do not know, but it will save subscribers from a $30 purchase.

Unfortunately, for those on Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X, the new release is PC-only, so it will be limited to Xbox Game Pass PC. Right now, there is no word of a console release, but one also hasn’t been ruled out.

About the Game

The upcoming Xbox Game Pass day one is Pax Dei, which was announced by developer Mainframe Industries and publisher New Tales back in 2023. It then debuted in 2024, via Steam Early Access, where it has had a mixed reception. And it is set to fully release on October 16.

The game is pitched as a social sandbox MMO that blends real medieval Europe with medieval mythology. In the open-world game, you make your character and experience the world with others as you build your home, explore the wilderness beyond it, engage in clan politics, and forge your legacy. And the home-building element of the game is certainly what makes it unique. While it’s not the first MMO to have it, most don’t put as much depth and emphasis into the mechanic as Pax Dei. Meanwhile, this is all the shell for third-person RPG combat that looks a bit generic, as is typically the case with MMOs.

As with any MMO, you should expect live-service elements and routine updates, as well as a subscription service that costs $4 a month. A subscription is not required to play it, but it does come with a collection of perks.

Struggling So Far

As alluded to, the reception to Pax Dei, while it has been in early access, has been mixed, though this has little to do with the quality of the game. Even the negative reviews admit the game itself has potential. Most have to do with monetization and other business decisions that surround the experience. As noted, a subscription is not required, nor are any microtransactions, but there is concern among players that both could create a pay-to-win situation. Only time will tell how valid these concerns are. The good news for Xbox Game Pass PC subscribers is that they do not need to fork over $30 to find out.

All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think, or join the conversation over on the ComicBook Forum. Meanwhile, if this upcoming addition doesn’t tickle your fancy, you may want to check out a new Square Enix RPG that was just added.
