Did you enjoy the recent Overwatch/Heroes of the Storm mashup? The crossover, which brought fan-favorite Overwatch hero D.Va to HotS and a new Officer D.Va skin back to Overwatch, has generally been well-received, and it seems these kinds of crossovers may become more common in the future.

Overwatch getting mixed up in Heroes of the Storm makes sense, since that game is all about the crossovers, but, apparently, we may see some less-likely meetings as well. An Overwatch/Starcraft crossover? Or Overwatch/World of Warcraft? It could happen!

Moderators from the Overwatch subreddit recently interviewed the game’s director Jeff Kaplan, and here’s what he had to say about future Blizzard crossovers:

“We’ve had some ideas [for crossovers]. Obviously, our stuff has been dipping into Heroes of the Storm which has been cool and they’ve been making great stuff. We felt like for our first year, it was really important not to do too much of that stuff, to really set Overwatch apart as its own IP. With that said, as we move forward, one thing that’s fun about Blizzard games is celebrating other Blizzard games, so I think we’d like to do it at some point.

We just want to make sure that our IP is established enough before we start dipping our toes in those waters. We’re also not Heroes of the Storm โ€“ like the fiction behind our game is not that ‘Heroes from any universe can end up here’ โ€“ we’re very much a contained universe. It’s a little more grounded, but I think at some point we would love to pay homage to some of the other Blizzard franchises.”

Later, Kaplan references some D.Va Starcraft-themed fan art, hinting that might be a meeting in the works. I’d be all for that, although obviously a Torbjorn/The Lost Vikings crossover is what we really need.
