Overwatch has been hinting at moon-based map since before the game even launched. Let’s not forget, popular character Winston lives at the Horizon Lunar Colony, and the game’s very first animated teaser took place there. We knew a moon map was coming eventually, and now it’s finally happening.

After a tease earlier this week, Blizzard has officially unveiled the Horizon Lunar Colony Assault map. For those who don’t keep up with Overwatch‘s extensive backstory, the Horizon Lunar Base was once a scientific facility where experiments were done on both humans and genetically modified apes. That all ended when the apes rose up and killed most of humans. Today, Winston mostly rattles around the base on his own.

Here’s how Blizzard is describing their new moon map:

“Horizon Lunar Colony is an Assault map set in a scientific base on the moon. Built as a first step towards humanity’s renewed exploration of space, the colony’s goal was to examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation–on human and ape alike. The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising…until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost.”

Given all the background Blizzard is providing for this new map, could another story-driven event like Overwatch Uprising be on the way? It definitely seems like they have big plans for the map.

Horizon Lunar Colony is currently available to play on PC via the game’s public testing servers. No word yet on when the map will be released to the general public or on consoles. The currently ongoing Overwatch Anniversary event ends on June 12, so maybe Blizzard will release the new map on or around the last day as one final birthday present for the fans?

Overwatch is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. You can check out some screenshots of the Horizon Lunar Colony map in the gallery below, and all WWG’s recent Overwatch coverage, right here.
