A rare but decidedly un-scary Pokemon has decided to get in on Pokemon Go‘s Halloween action.

Players have figured out that Pokemon Go divides the world into “biomes,” certain geographical areas that spawn different type of Pokemon. Areas classified as desert biomes will spawn Pokemon like Sandshrew and Diglett, while areas classified as water biomes will spawn Pokemon like Magikarp and Goldeen.

When the Halloween event started last week, Pokemon Go forget to include water biomes in the areas in which the special Halloween Pokemon appear. So, while the rest of the world were filling their Pokedex with Shuppet, Banette, and other Ghost-Type Pokemon, those that lived and played in water biomes were stuck catching the same Pokemon as normal.

Pokemon Go developers seemed to tinker with the water biome settings over the weekend in order to get the Halloween Pokemon to start spawning everywhere. And while Halloween Pokemon started to spawn at the same rate as they did everywhere else in the world, players living in certain areas got an extra treat when Corsola also started to appear in mass quantities.

A Regional Exclusive Pokemon (Sort Of)

Corsola is one of Pokemon Go‘s weirder Pokemon, not due to its attacks or abilities, but because of where it spawns. While Corsola spawns on multiple continents, it only spawns in areas between the 31st N latitude line and the 26th S latitude line. Pokemon Go decided to make Corsola a “tropical exclusive” Pokemon, as the Pokemon is generally drawn towards warm water.

Even in parts of the world where Corsola can appear, it’s still considered to be a somewhat rare Pokemon. So, players were surprised when the Pokemon started invading certain coastal areas yesterday in conjunction with more Ghost-Type Pokemon appearing.

The Corsola invasion hasn’t slowed down any over the last few hours, so it’s unclear if it will last for the duration of the Halloween event or if this is just an easily recifiable glitch in the system. Unfortunately, Corsola’s increased spawns do not extend out of the tropical area where it usually appears, so most players living in colder parts of the Northern Hemisphere are still out of luck.

Other Halloween Perks

The big draw of the Halloweenย event are five new Ghost-Type Pokemon, all of which originally came from the Hoenn region ofย Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire. In addition to the five Ghost-Type Pokemon, players can also catch a special Pikachu wearing a Witch’s Hat during the event. With the exception of Pikachu, the Ghost-Type Pokemon seem to spawn a lot more frequently at night.ย

Players will also get double the amount of Candies for catching, transferring, evolving, and hatching Pokemon during the Halloween event. There’s also a handful of boxes on sale in theย Pokemon Goย store offering heavily discounted bundles of items.ย Pokemon Goย also added a spooky Halloween theme for when the sun comes down, and a new Mimikyuย Hat for players to wear.

The event will run through November 1st, so players should take advantage of the spooky season and grab those extra Corsola while you still can!
