Back at E3 2015 Sony and developer Ys Net shocked the gaming world by announcing Shenmue III, which promptly broke Kickstarter records by raising over $6.3 million. Since then, we…haven’t heard much. Oh, sure, Ys Net releases a new Shenmue III screenshot or snippet of gameplay here and there, but it remains rather unclear what those fat stacks of fan cash are being used for.
Well, don’t expect to find out at E3 2017, as the makers of Shenmue III have announced their game will be no-showing the big event:

“While our schedule has yet to be finalized, we will be devoting June to game development and as a result, will unfortunately not be participating in any game shows. On the other hand, we look forward to bringing you our monthly updates and hope you do too!”
Speaking of those monthly updates, Shenmue III just dropped their latest one. The new video is only a minute long, but it does show off a character we haven’t seen before. This guy doesn’t have a name yet, but he’s certainly unique, sporting a massive physique, suspenders, mullet, and an odd constantly-grinning expression. I’m not sure if this guy is supposed to make me laugh or make me nervous – maybe a little of both? Here’s what one of Shenmue III‘s devs had to say about the new guy…
“This is an unfamiliar face. It’s a new character, that’s why! Yikes, that’s one scary mug! When will this person show up, I wonder?”
Hey, don’t ask me – you’re the one making the game! You can check out the new character in the video at the top of this post.
Shenmue III is slated to hit PC and PS4 this December, although I wouldn’t be too shocked if there’s a delay.
