New Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Reveal Proves This Pack Is Bigger Than Fans Thought

For many Sims fans, the last few expansion packs for The Sims 4 have been a bit of a mixed bag. Businesses & Hobbies felt a little small in scope, whereas Enchanted by Nature fell short of its promise thanks to bugs and issues with ailments. Even so, Simmers always have hope for a new pack reveal. Initially, however, Adventure Awaits looked like it might be another small pack without a ton of truly new content to offer. However, a new, deeper look at gameplay for The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits proves it’s a bigger expansion than we initially thought.

Adventure Awaits will release on October 2nd for all platforms. From its initial reveal trailer, the big takeaway was clearly the return of the Imaginary Friend from Sims 3. That imaginary friend himself stepped in to narrate today’s more in-depth gameplay reveal trailer. Not only did we get a better sense of the new Imaginary Friend, but we also saw a lot more of the new gameplay that Adventure Awaits has to offer. And for many fans, it’s looking like a win.

Adventure Awaits Isn’t Just an Outdoor Retreat Revamp After All

Many recent Sims 4 packs have revisited older concepts, such as the updates to businesses brought by Businesses & Hobbies. While many of these packs are getting on in age, some Simmers want to see actual pack revamps instead of new DLC with updated spins on new features. So, many were concerned that Adventure Awaits might be a bit too much like buying the Outdoor Retreat Game Pack a second time. But thanks to the gameplay trailer, we have more insight into what’s actually on offer.

The trailer is narrated by the returning Imaginary Friend himself, and it starts off giving us some more insight into how this controversial character will return. It’s unclear if every child will have an automatic Imaginary Friend again, but we do know that the option to dismiss or make an Imaginary Friend real will be available. Beyond that, however, the trailer gives a deeper look at new gameplay additions from Adventure Awaits.

We got confirmation of three different pre-built Getaways – Revive & Thrive, Love Highland, and Camp Gibbi Gibbi. Each Getaway comes with its own unique schedule, with themes like Wellness, Love Island-style competition, and, of course, Child Sim Summer Camp. As the trailer reveals, each Getaway also has optional rules that function somewhat like Neighborhood Action Plans to encourage or discourage certain behavior. The level of customization here looks robust, with the option to craft your own custom Getaway schedule or tweak existing ones. Similarly, actual Getaway locations can be crafted by Simmers to their liking, with the option to use custom venues created by you or community creators.

For those who love a family-themed pack, it’s exciting to see that what Child Sims do at Summer Camp can genuinely impact their growth. Completing specific challenges at camp can unlock new, custom traits when Child Sims grow up. These can impact their skills and preferences, making sure that Summer Camp Getaways aren’t just a throwaway mechanic. This, along with new traits and the level of control players have over Getaways, makes Adventure Awaits look a lot more exciting and expansive than it initially appeared.

Like prior packs, Adventure Awaits also teases cross-pack compatibility that will add even more possibilities to create custom getaways. Like Businesses & Hobbies before it, Adventure Awaits looks poised to lean into offering Sims fans more tools to craft their own experience. For many fans, myself included, this pack could well make sending Sims on vacation fun again. Adventure Awaits releases on October 2nd and is available for pre-order now.
