Nintendo finally confirmed during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation that The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be headed to the Nintendo Switch on November 17. It’s an incredibly belated release date announcement, since Skyrim is one of the first games we ever saw running on the Switch, and one of the first games confirmed for the console when it was first revealed. Still we’re not going to pretend that we’re not excited. Skyrim on the go is going to be amazing, and the game look amazing on the Nintendo Switch.

Looking at all of the gameplay footage we’ve accrued so far, I think it’s safe to assume that we’re looking at a build of the game based on the later Special Edition. The lighting and textures look spruced up compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Skyrim, and I’m happy to say that performance looks like it’s taken a big step up as well.

It’s hard to believe. When you hold your Nintendo Switch next to an Xbox 360 it’s about 1/6 the size, but it’s capable of so much more. The boost in processing speed, and huge boost in RAM provide the perfect place for an open-world game like Skyrim to thrive. We can’t wait to explore its deepest caves and its most intimidating mountain peaks all over again!
