Sega Sammy Holdings recently posted its financial statement for the period ending September 30th, and, thanks to the retro-fied Sonic Mania that came out back in August, the company has seen a huge increase in net sales and operating profit.
According to the report, the company has reported net sales nearing 194.7 billion yen, a 14.9 percent increase from the same period the year before. Operating income also increased to 26.8 billion yen, up 74.5 percent from the previous year.
Approximately 10.1 billion yen of the operating income came from Sega’s Entertainment Contents Division, and sales were led by the strong reception of Sonic Mania, which released in August. It contributed to overall better physical sales, with 8,650 thousand copies sold this year, compared to 4,650 thousand sold the previous year.
The company noted the following:
“In the packaged game software field, sales amounted to 8,650 thousand copies (4,650 thousand copies for the same period in the previous fiscal year) thanks to the strength of the new title Sonic Mania, which earned the highest Metascore in the new titles of the Sonic series released in the past 15 years. In addition, the Group launched Total War: WARHAMMER 2, a new title of the Total War series, following its popular predecessor in PC games.”
Needless to say, the company is having a great year, and Sonic Forces and other forthcoming releases for 2018 can only make it better.
Sonic Mania is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC.
