When it comes to RPGs such as the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, plenty of players will boast about how much time they have spent in the game, a badge of honor that signifies how many hours they’ve spent slaying dragons and smacking around some Radroaches. Other players, however, take pride in how quickly they can get done with the game, and one speedrunner just set a new record for blowing through every single Fallout game in under two hours.
And if you think that means that the player spent less than two hours on each individual Fallout game, you might want to think again. No, this user beat five different games in the series at a combined time of 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 54 seconds, minus all of the loading times.
Tomatoanus is the speedrunner in question who now can claim the world record for beating the Fallout Anthology in his blazing time, though to be fair, he’s the first player to ever attempt the immense task of taking down all of these games. He holds the one and only time for the trial, but despite the leaderboards now looking pretty baronright here, the fact that he’s done it puts a target on the record. The gamer swapped out Fallout Tactics for Fallout 4 when taking on the challenge to maintain the 5-game anthology format and to skip a game that's notoriously difficult for speedrunners. Completing these games so quickly may have seemed like an inconceivable task to many, but now that it’s been proven to be possible, there will surely be people pining after the world record.
One of the reasons that a lot of players would probably shrug off the idea of being able to beat these games anywhere near the time that tomatoanus achieved is likely due to the sheer amount of content there is to dig through in each one. Plenty of players can spend upwards of a half hour on the character creation screen alone, reallocating points and shaping their character perfectly to resemble the Vault hero that they’ll be comfortable with for the rest of their journey. Couple this with having to stop and look in every single nook and cranny to make sure you don’t miss any bottlecaps or weapons and you’ve got a recipe for sitting in front of a game for hours on end.
