This weekend marks the first official Splatfest in Splatoon 2, and stakes are high, y’all. The showdown this weekend is between ketchup and mayo, and it kicks off tonight at 11PM central! Don’t worry, it’s going down all night long, late into Saturday night; you’ll have plenty of time to rep your team. Some early gameplay footage has surfaced though, and damn if they aren’t actually spraying mayo and ketchup! In the first Splatoon, random standard colors were typically used and spruced up a bit to glow. This time around things are looking… a little grosser. Take a look for yourself:

Yeah. I’m team mayo all the way (it’s the superior condiment, to be honest), but this does look a little disgusting. I mean, apart from the thought of spraying literal mayo all over the place and getting smacked in the face with it, we’re sure there will be no shortage of perverted jokes and crude messages littering Inkopolis square when the time comes.

Otherwise, we’re really looking forward to this Splatfest. For the uninitiated, Splatfest is a special celebration in Splatoon where two teams are formed, divided over two highly controversial and well-loved things — dogs vs. cats, water parks vs. roller coasters, pop vs. rock, etc. — and then duke it out over a weekend to see which team is superior. The winner is selected based on popularity and match wins and losses. Things get very heated.

And don’t forget! During this Splatfest we’ll get to play on an exclusive new stage: Shift Station. In the gameplay video above we also get our first look at this brand new stage in action. Players who made their way through the story mode campaign will recognize the starlit panels above, and even seasoned veterans will be presented with some fresh new challenges as the stage continues to move and change over the course of a match. We can’t wait to play this weekend — we’ll see you all there!
