We already know that Super Mario Odyssey is shaping up to be one of the best Mario games to date, based on that spiffy trailer that made the rounds yesterday – complete with sing-along! But there might be more to the game than we expect, as it's possible that it could be getting some kind of multiplayer hook.

Speaking with GameSpot, Nintendo exec Yoshiaki Koizumi noted that we could very well be getting some kind of multiplayer hook. "The first thing I want to say about multiplayer is that since this is the Ninendo Switch, and it does have two controllers, it's very easy for you to imagine handing one to another person. So there probably is some…thing you'll hear about multiplayer. The timing is not quite there, so I hope you're able to wait for a little longer to hear about that."

The game isn't due for release for a few more months yet, so Nintendo has ample time to build up and introduce these multiplayer features into the fold, possibly with foot races or maybe even a co-op factor, where Mario doesn't necessarily need to complete missions by himself. Hey, does this mean we'll be getting Luigi in a wedding tux? It's about damn time.

There are also network features being hinted at. "As for Network features, since this is something the hardware is capable of, there might be something that you'll heard about there as well, and we hope you'll look forward to it." Again, he's being very cryptic, but we could see some new features announced in the months ahead to get us even more excited about the game, if that's possible.

Super Mario Odyssey is looking to be Nintendo's big hit for the holidays, though it's also releasing Fire Emblem Warriors and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in the months ahead. But Mario is instantly more recognizable with millions of fans, so, yeah, that'll definitely make the Nintendo Switch a "must-buy" for the holiday season. We'll find out what other features are coming soon, and, of course, report them here.

Super Mario Odyssey releases on October 27th for Nintendo Switch.
