On September 4th, The Sims 4 officially revealed the game’s next major Expansion Pack. The Adventure Awaits reveal trailer shows off the game’s getaway theme, including the ability to create custom vacation venues. But for many gamers, the return of a controversial figure from The Sims 3 is the highlight. No matter how you feel about the childhood companion, the Imaginary Friend is about to return.

The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits Expansion Pack Adds New Neighborhood, Custom Venues, and Imaginary Friends

The Adventure Awaits trailer shows off some of the new features headed our way with this latest Sims 4 expansion. Players get a first look at some new venues and hobbies. And of course, there’s the return of the Imaginary Friend of Sims 3 fame. Before we dig into the details, you can check out the official Expansion Pack reveal trailer below:

The Adventure Awaits pack seems, in many ways, like Outdoor Retreat 2.0. However, that vacation-themed addition was a smaller Game Pack, so it’s safe to say that Adventure Awaits will pack in more content to build on Sims’ options for getting away from it all. For those who have been yearning for more vacation options, this pack looks poised to deliver in a pretty big way.

Like most Expansion Packs, Adventure Awaits will give us a new neighborhood in the form of Gibbi Point. This tropical-inspired neighborhood is giving a combination of Summer Camp and Love Island vibes. And of course, players will be able to uncover a few new features as they explore Gibbi Point.

Interestingly, the pack will offer a pretty big expansion to childhood content. That’s not an immediate fit for a getaway-themed pack, but the summer camp of it all certainly pulls it together. Players will be able to build their own playgrounds for child sims to explore. Plus, new activities, traits, careers, and challenges will make childhood in The Sims 4 more robust.

And yes, more childhood content in Adventure Awaits means the return of the Imaginary Friend. This character first arrived in The Sims 3, and it’s been incredibly controversial ever since. The game essentially forced this bizarre doll-turned-real-boy on Child Sims, without a clear way to get rid of them. Hopefully, the Sims 4 rendition will keep the childhood charm and lose the mandatory creepiness factor.

Childhood will also be a part of the pack’s new Getaways feature. These themed retreats include a kid’s camp, fitness retreat, and even a Love Island-inspired romance contest retreat. Players will also be able to plan their own custom getaways and design new venues for their Sims to enjoy on vacation.

More details about The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits will be revealed in a series of developer Q&A sessions in the official Sims Discord. Players can learn more about Imaginary Friends, Townies & Lore, and the Getaway System in this upcoming series, which begins with Imaginary Friends on September 9th at 4 PM EDT.

The Sims 4 Adventure Awaits releases on October 2nd for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-orders are available now and include bonus content for eager Simmers who buy the new expansion before November 13th.
