Larry Hryb, AKA Xbox Live's Major Nelson, just revealed what is sure to be the most exciting Xbox sale of the year for many of you. The Backward Compatible Super Sale kicks off Tuesday, May 16, and will feature the most popular Xbox 360 games playable on Xbox One via backward compatibility!

"Back Compat Super Sale starts 16 May with up to 75% off on 275+ titles like Call of Duty Black Ops II, Red Dead Redemption, Skate 3 & GTA IV."

Hell, even if the four games mentioned were the only games going on sale next Tuesday, this would still be making headlines. This is going to be a huge deal because when a game makes its way to the Xbox One backward compatible library, it does so because it was a fan-favorite; something that Xbox players consistently demanded.

While we're pumped for Skate 3 and Black Ops II in particular with over 275 games on offer it's obvious that there are many more exciting classics that weren't mentioned specifically. While we still have more than a few games that haven't been updated for Xbox One compatibility, most of the can't-miss titles are there. So what else are we expecting and hoping to be discounted? Here's a short list of the games we expect to show up dirt cheap:

  • Assassin's Creed
  • Assassin's Creed 2
  • Halo: Reach
  • Gears of War 3
  • Fable 2
  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • BioShock
  • Call of Duty: World at War
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Lost Odyssey

We'll be interested to see if recently added games like Hard Corps: Uprising or Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions get thrown into the bunch, but we doubt Microsoft would risk pissing off those who recently purchased those games right when they were added to the library.

By the way, Xbox gamers aren't the only ones who can look forward to some serious savings. This weekend Sony is holding a massive flash sale with huge games discounted across all PlayStation platforms. Because we're crazy people, we went through and recorded every single game on sale. You can find the full list right here.
