TRON and TRON: Legacy 4K Blu-ray Steelbook Pre-Order Details (Updated)

You might be surprised to know that Disney’s iconic original 1982 TRON film and the 2010 sequel TRON: Legacy have let many an anniversary milestone pass by without a 4K Blu-ray release. Nope, it took the imminent release of a third movie in the series – TRON: Ares – to finally make it happen.

Indeed, TRON and TRON: Legacy will debut on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the first time ever, and they will be available in some sweet looking Steelbook cases. UPDATE: At the time of writing the Blu-rays are sold out, but listings have returned here on Amazon. That could mean that a restock is imminent. Keep tabs here at Walmart for a restock as well. Note that the pre-orders sold out almost instantly when they first offered earlier this month, so we don’t expect them to last long when / if they’re offered again. TRON and TRON: Legacy 4K Blu-ray Steelbook Pre-Orders

Disney notes that TRON was digitally scanned and carefully remastered by The Walt Disney Film Restoration team, with the work on TRON supervised by the original director Steven Lisberger. TRON: Legacy was also remastered in High Dynamic Range from the original digital sources under the supervision of the original director Joseph Kosinski. Presumably, special features on both releases are legacy.

Disney also notes that the films will be available on digital platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home, and that they will be presented with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Previously released special features will also be available on the 4K Blu-rays for both TRON and TRON: Ares.

If you want to complete the trilogy, we also expect the 4K Blu-ray for TRON: Ares to be available on or around the October 10th debut in theaters.

Tron: Ares is directed by Joachim Rønning from a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow, based on a story Wigutow crafted with David DiGilio. The film features an all-star cast that not only includes Jared Leto and Jeff Bridges but also Gillian Anderson, Cameron Monaghan and Hasan Minhaj. It also has a pretty spectacular soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails. Tron: Ares is set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.
