'Stranger Things' Season 3 Will Have A Time Jump

One of the most enjoyable elements of Stranger Things has been watching the relationships between the young characters on the show, capturing a sense of innocence and curiosity that's absent in many other sci-fi series. An unexpected complication with these young performers is that they're growing up before audiences' very eyes, with the creators revealing there will need to be a time jump between the Season 2 finale and Season 3 premiere.

"It will have to be somewhat of a time gap, because the kids are, I mean, they already look so much older," co-creator Ross Duffer explained to Yahoo. "No matter what we want to do, I remember when we were originally talking about Season 2, we wanted to just start it in Christmas and just go from there, but then we realized the kids are just too old, so we had to jump forward. Even the latest trailer, we had to loop a line with [Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas]. He sounds like a man now. It creeps me out. He's going to be driving to set next year."

"It seems very wrong," co-creator Matt Duffer added. "The minute I see Caleb drive up, I'm probably going to pass out."

It had been roughly 10 months that had passed since the Season 1 finale and Season 2 premiere, with the young cast looking noticeably older. Whether the Duffers will set the upcoming season another year apart or possibly even further into the future to compensate for the maturing actors is yet to be revealed.

The Duffer brothers don't have to struggle with these time jumps indefinitely, having previously mentioned their vision for the show will last roughly four seasons.

"We have an end goal; we know where we want to go," Ross confessed. "We're not quite sure how long it will take to get there, but we do have a plan. And some of it, it's just because Season 2, we just came into it with so many ideas, and so many of them have been kicked further down the road. So we're gonna use some of those. In [our Season 2 brainstorm], we figured out what that ending is, but it'll take more than one year to get there."

The second season of Stranger Things is currently available on Netflix.
