Fans have waited quite awhile to see Eddie Brock reunited with the Venom symbiote, and that reunion will finally take place in the upcoming Venom #150.

Marvel showed off the anticipated issue’s cover along with a new interior preview of the book to IGN. Marvel editor Devin Lewis also talked about the transition from current host Lee Price, who just got ahold of the symbiote a few issues ago, to former host Eddie Brock. It turns out that taking it from Lee this early was always part of the plan.

“The story featuring Lee Price is only a chapter in the symbiote’s ongoing saga. I love Lee โ€“ especially the tactical sensibility Mike has given him, the awareness of where all the pieces are on the board at any given moment. He operates with intelligence and thinks about things before he does them. That tempered and measured approach is something I love in the character, and it’s the kind of thing that could really turn Lee into a great villain for the larger Marvel Universe.”

With Lee taking up a firm antagonist role, Brock will return to his more antihero roots in the coming issues, written by series scribe Mike Costa and artist Tradd Moore. During Flash Thompson’s run as host, the symbiote was cleansed of any negative influences. That’s why the suit has fought with Lee so often during his run as Venom. While Brock isn’t as dark as Lee, he’s certainly not Flash Thompson, and that is something Marvel wants to play with.

“[Issue #150 is] going to be the first adventure Eddie and the symbiote go on once they’re reunited and free of Lee and the FBI’s symbiote task force. Eddie Brock and Venom, swinging through the concrete jungle. There’s a lot of ‘Lethal Protector’ in the DNA of Mike’s current run and his approach to Eddie, and, like that story, Mike’s has a lot of heart,” Lewis explained. “But I’ve been adamant about the fact that the symbiote has to be a THREAT. Not necessarily to Eddie or anyone in particular, other than Spider-Man, but certainly to the world around it. It can and should be a destabilizing force. Regardless of its mental state or the fact that it’s been cleansed, Lee has proven that the symbiote can be dangerous in the wrong hands, and we’re going to see the ramifications of that play out in Tradd’s story.”

Speaking of Flash Thompson, a backup story in #150 will finally reveal how and when he gave up the suit in a story written by Robbie Thompson and drawn by Gerardo Sandoval. There will also be a second backup story written by David Michelinie with art by Ron Lim set within the pages of Venom: Lethal Protector. Once #150 hits, the series will keep the original numbering going forward.
