Thanos’ ship is called Sanctuary 2. The ship is absolutely massive, dwarfing the ship that contains what remains of the Asgardian people when it appears in the mid-credits scene of Thor: Ragnarok.

If you’re wondering what the first Sanctuary is, that would be the area of space that Thanos uses as his base of operations. The scene that takes place between Ronan, Thanos, the Other, and Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy is set in Sanctuary.

Not much is known about Sanctuary 2 beyond its name and incredible size. Fans will almost certainly see more of it in Avengers: Infinity War. That film will pick up Thor’s story right where Thor: Ragnarok left off.

Its appropriate that Thanos make a grand entrance in Avengers: Infinity War since the directors have said it is, in many ways, Thanos’s movie.

“I’m most excited for the audience to learn about [Thanos,” Joe Russo said while answering fan questions. “I think he’s a very interesting and complex villain. That’s why I like him. That’s why I’m excited for the audience to learn about him. I think his motivations, albeit psychotic, are compelling. And I think that in a lot of ways this is his movie, so it’s going to be very interesting to see how people respond to Thanos in the film.”

Josh Brolin, the actor who plays Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, is also excited about the role, as he said in a previous interview.

“I can’t tell you definitively, but how I feel right now and what I’ve spoken to the Russos about and Feige, absolutely,” Brolin said. “It actually more than pulls off, and I think what they’re coming up with based on what I’ve done, I think is next level”
