Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Dominates Second Box Office Weekend

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues its domination of the box office for the second week in a row. Marvel Studios' latest once again left all challengers eating its stardust.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 earned an estimated $16.6 million on its second Friday at the box office. That sets the film up for a $61.9 million take in its second weekend.

If projections hold, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will reach $245.3 by Monday. After just two weeks, that will leave the sequel just $90 shy of catching up with the original Guardians of the Galaxy's domestic box office total.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 opened last week to $145 million domestically. The film has already crossed $500 million at the worldwide box office. That pushes the Marvel Cinematic Universe's lifetime box office total over the $11 billion mark.

Newcomers at the box office this week include King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Guy Ritchie's take on Arthurian legend starring Sons of Anarchy's Charlie Hunnam, as well as the Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer comedy Snatched. Neither provided much competition for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Snatched performed decently given its budget, critical reception, and expectations, but King Arthur: Legend of the Sword may prove to be a financial disaster for Warner Bros. Polar opposites, Emily and Linda realize that working through their differences as mother and daughter - in unpredictable, hilarious fashion - is the only way to escape the wildly outrageous jungle adventure they have fallen into. Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn star in the new comedy adventure SNATCHED, which also features Ike Barinholtz ("Neighbors"), Wanda Sykes ("Bad Moms") and Joan Cusack ("Working Girl").

3. King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to the epic fantasy action adventure "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword." Starring Charlie Hunnam in the title role, the film is an iconoclastic take on the classic Excalibur myth, tracing Arthur's journey from the streets to the throne. When the child Arthur's father is murdered, Vortigern (Jude Law), Arthur's uncle, seizes the crown. Robbed of his birthright and with no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes up the hard way in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy...whether he likes it or not.

5. The Boss Baby
