If you are familiar with Daisy Johnson, then you know the Inhuman has a colorful history with Marvel Comics. The character was created by Brian Michael Bendis back in July 2004, and Daisy is now the star of Agents of SHIELD. The hit ABC drama follows Daisy and a slew of other SHIELD operatives as they conduct missions in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, fans are wondering how closely the show will follow up with Daisy’s comic canon, and the show’s executive producer is now commenting on whether that means she will become the director of SHIELD.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jed Whedon had plenty to say about Daisy Johnson and her leadership skills. When a fan asked is there was a chance Daisy would become the director of SHIELD, the producer did not shy away from the possibility.
“We’ve hinted at it a bit, that Coulson thinks she can play more of a leadership role,” Whedon admitted. “We’ll see how it goes, and where the story takes her. She’s been through a lot so that usually turns someone from a rookie into a seasoned veteran, which is what you need to lead. We’ll see if she steps up to the plate.”
Of course, fans will know there is a long line of SHIELD directors in the MCU. In the movies, Nick Fury was the defacto leader before he was forced to fake his death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. After his removal, Phil Coulson became the head. Now, Jeffrey Mace is the current director of SHIELD, and next season of Agents of SHIELD promises to test his leadership abilities more so than ever before.
Here’s the official synopsis for “LMD,” the first episode to air following the show’s midseason hiatus:
“On the heels of their encounter with Ghost Rider, their strangest phenomenon yet, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. suddenly find themselves up against a myriad of new and ongoing threats: The anti-Inhuman Watchdogs are gaining political influence with Senator Nadeer, and uniting behind a mysterious benefactor. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to the team, Aida has kidnapped Agent May and replaced her with a Life Model Decoy. Aida’s evil plans for May and the team remain a mystery.”
