Updated projections suggest that Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is headed for the second-best second frame at the box office of all time.
Avengers: Infinity War took in an estimated $31.8 million in its second Friday at the box office. That’s a 72 percent decline from its opening Friday numbers, but those numbers were inflated by Infinity War’s impressive Thursday night previews take.
That sets Avengers: Infinity War up for a second weekend total of $120.2 million. That number is second only to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which earned $149.2 million in its second weekend. Black Panther set the previous bar for a second-best second weekend earlier this year by earning $111.6 million.
Avengers: Infinity War’s box office total will then stand at $453.5 million, making it the second-fastest film to the $400 million mark ever.
Speaking of Black Panther, the film is still earning at the box office even as Avengers: Infinity War has arrived to carry Marvel’s banner. Black Panther is expected to earn $3 million in its twelfth weekend, bringing its domestic total of $693 million by the end of the weekend. With the $700 million mark just $7 million out of reach, Disney may choose to keep Black Panther in theaters a while longer to reach that milestone benchmark.
Paramount Pictures’ horror hit A Quiet Place slides into third place in its fifth weekend at the box office. The film is expected to earn about $8 million from 3,565 locations, which will bring its box office total to approximately $160 million.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s Rampage is also in the top then this weekend. The film is expected to earn $4.6 million for a fifth-place finish, bringing its overall total to $84.6 million.
