Last year, Marvel Studios unleashed one its most ambitious projects upon moviegoers with Captain America: Civil War. The blockbuster made its way into cinemas with one impressive cast, and the Russo Brothers were tasked with juggling dozens of heroes. From Scarlet Witch to Black Panther and more, the Marvel Cinematic Universe collided big-time with the film. But, as you might have noticed, two major players from the franchise were left out of the film.
When Civil War debuted, both Thor and the Hulk remained absent from its line-up. The Asgardian was still out searching for answers to the odd visions he had during Avengers: Age of Ultron. And, as for the Hulk, the raging alter-ego of Bruce Banner was still MIA. The two characters are set to return to the MCU this year when Thor: Ragnarok has its debut in November, and fans are excited to see the pair return.
Still, no one can be more excited about the comeback than Chris Hemsworth himself. The star recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the film's much-anticipated release. In the publication's most recent issue, Hemsworth joked that he felt relieved by the third Thor film as he wondered if both he and Mark Ruffalo had been fired after they were excused from Civil War.
"I was like, 'What?' Are we being fired?'" Hemsworth recalled. "Marvel quickly reassured us, 'No you guys have got your own journey going on, and in order for that to work you can't be a part of this one.'"
Hemsworth continued, saying, "Look, it turned out just perfect because we got to do a whole different kind of thing we wouldn't have able to do otherwise."
Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – The Incredible Hulk!"
The cast features Chris Hemsworth in the title role for the fifth time; Tom Hiddleston as Thor's adversarial, adopted brother, Loki; Idris Elba as the Asgardian sentry, Heimdall; Sir Anthony Hopkins again portraying Odin, Ruler of Asgard; Mark Ruffalo reprising his role of Bruce Banner/the Hulk; Cate Blanchett as the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela; Jeff Goldblum as the eccentric Grandmaster; Tessa Thompson bring the classic hero Valkyrie to life on the big screen; and Karl Urban will add his might to the fray as Skurge.
Thor: Ragnarok is directed by Taika Waititi, written by Craig Kyle.
We'll see if that expands in Thor: Ragnarok when it releases November 3. Are you excited for the latest adventure in the Mighty Thor's worthy saga? Let us know with your vote below in the Anticipation Rankings!
