Bryan Singer’s upcoming X-Men Apocalypse features some new recruits to the cast, including Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) as the team’s resident telepath Jean Grey.

In Singer’s previous films, the role was played by Famke Janssen, and it turns out Turner emailed Janssen for some advice. Famke told her “You don’t need any. You’re perfect. You’re great.’ So I can’t wait to see the movie and what she’s done with it.”
When Entertainment Weekly asked her if it was weird to see another actress play the part, she said: “I’m actually really excited about it, and it’s not the first time obviously that it’s happened. In the X-Men series, they’ve been doing this for years. Although women, it’s interesting because they’re replaced, and the older versions โ or more mature, whatever the politically correct version of that is โ are never to be seen again. Whereas the men are allowed to be both ages. Sexism. I think that I should be back along with my younger version and the way that we’ve seen it with Magneto and Professor X.”
She makes some really good points, and she hasn’t just sat on her hands in regards to the idea of her returning, as she did pitch the idea to the producers, but so far she hasn’t heard anything of note. “Yes, I have. I have not heard any feedback on that, other than total radio silence.”
X-Men Apocalypse debuts May 27th.
