Derrickson revealed that Marvel Studios is basically one big family when it comes to the directors of the individual films.

“Everybody talks to everybody,” Derrickson revealed. Specifically, he got some help from another director. “I got notes on the Doctor Strange script from James Gunn, and I talk to him every once in awhile, ask him questions,” throughout the process, he said.

Derrickson also gave some credit to one of the Civil War directors for getting the job in the first place.

“Joe Russo is part of why I got this job,” he said. “Joel McHale is my best friend, and he knows Joe, so Joe kind of got in my corner, and helped me land it.”
