Hopefully, James Gunn is hooked on a good feeling today. The writer-slash-director is celebrating his 46th birthday.

Born in August 1970, James Gunn grew up between the cities of St. Louis and Manchester in Missouri. Raised by his parents, Gunn fell in love with cinema and was particularly inspired by low-budget films like Night of the Living Dead and Friday the 13th. At only 12-years-old, Gunn began making home videos with his siblings that featured gruesome zombies and the like.

To kick off his career in Hollywood, Gunn started his career in filmmaking back in 1995 where he wrote the independent film, Tromeo and Juliet. He then went on to write, produce, and star in his very own superhero comedy called The Specials which featured talent like Robe Lowe and Judy Greer. However, his first big Hollywood break came when Gunn was selected to pen the script for Scooby-Doo and its following sequel.

For his directorial debut, Gunn signed on to create the horror-comedy flick Slither, and the film went on to garner critical acclaim. It was this gig that eventually helped Gunn gain the attention of Marvel Studios, and as such, he was asked to co-write and direct the company's upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie. The sci-fi superhero romp went on to gross massive earnings at the worldwide box office, and currently, Gunn recently finished shooting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2.

A popular figure in the Marvel fandom, Gunn is well-known for his active social media presence as he often updates fans on his work through Facebook and Twitter. But, of course, fans will understand if he chooses to abstain from posting today to celebrate his special day with loved ones.

Happy birthday, James! We really hope it's out of this world! Just, try not to get abducted by Ravagers or whatnot.
