Marvel’s Iron Fist was a success for Netflix despite the critical bombardment it received. But the executives were paying attention to the fans and are already making changes to improve Season Two.

Aside from a new showrunner coming aboard, star Finn Jones is set to begin his training for the new series well before production dates have even been announced.

“Now, just gonna let you know, moving into Season Two of Iron Fist, I’m actually starting my training next week,” Jones revealed to Inverse. “We’re at least four or five months away from shooting, so this time around, I’m being given a lot more preparation leading up to Season Two, which I think is really gonna have a huge improvement on the quality of the fight scenes in Season Two of Iron Fist.”

The fight sequences in Iron Fist were poorly received among fans and critics. One particular scene set in a storage room had more than 50 cuts in less than 40 seconds, causing frenetic pacing and actions that were hard to follow.

That’s a huge difference compared to the two ‘Hallway fights’ in Seasons One and Two of Daredevil, which were well choreographed long takes with minimal edits.

Rush To Shoot

Part of the problem had to do with Jones’ lack of preparation before filming due to the scheduling of the series and its crossover followup.

“I went from Iron Fist straight into Defenders,” Jones said. “I had a week to turn around and that was all pretty much costume fittings, script read-throughs, and sleeping. In terms of training, really, it has been in the first season and in both of the shows. It’s been on the job.”

Jones spoke about the differences between Iron Fist and The Defenders and how the latest Netflix series improved on what came before.

“Obviously, by the time Defenders came, I’d been working on [Iron Fist] and performing the choreography for nearly six or seven months, so I’d gotten a lot more used to it,” Jones said. “Also, we had a new choreography team [for Defenders] and we had a different cameraman. So, the way it was constructed and the way that it was directed and put together was very different, which I think also helped the show’s choreography.”

With a second season of Iron Fist on the way, it’s encouraging to hear Marvel and its star want to get it right. The show will likely perform well for Netflix, but Marvel Television would probably like it to be held to the same standard as their other series on the streaming platform.

The Defenders

The Defenders is now streaming on Netflix.

Marvel’s The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal โ€“ to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
