Earlier today, director James Gunn took to Twitter to chat with fans, and one response caught the eyes of netizens. The Guardians of the Galaxy director answered a fan who asked if Tom Cruise might play Adam Warlock in the MCU, and Gunn had this to say:
“Don’t you think it would be weird for Ayesha to create the perfect man as someone in his mid-fifties?” the director wrote. “Also: never said AW was in Vol 3.“

Fans have waited quite some time to see Warlock star in the MCU, but the hero might be side-lined for a little bit longer. The franchise is busy dealing with pre-existing plot points like Thanos and adding in Warlock could confuse casual fans of the cosmic franchise.
Still, Gunn seems ready to bring Warlock into the thick of things. Earlier this year, the director did an interview with SlashFilm where he spoke about the hero’s impending debut. Gunn said Warlock would not take part in Avengers: Infinity War, but that “he will be part of the future Marvel cosmic universe.”
In fact, the director went so far as to say Warlock will be a “pretty important part” of the universe.
Gunn has not said when Warlock will show up, so the director is right with his tweeted noted; However, fans do feel confident the third film will introduce the hero. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said if Warlock “appears anywhere in the future, it’ll be in Guardians.” Gunn is also currently penning the script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and he’s teased fans with his research on Warlock.
For now, fans will have to wait and see just how Warlock enters the MCU, but the debut will surely be worth the wait. Gunn has yet to let down Marvel fans since he signed onto its cinematic universe; The director won’t let Warlock mark his first blip in the franchise.
