J.K. Simmons Open to Playing J. Jonah Jameson Again

J.K. Simmons is set to take on the role of DC's iconic police officer, Commissioner Gordon, in Justice League later this month, but no comic fan will ever be able to forget the contributions that the actor has already given the world of comic book films. The Oscar-winning actor is widely known for his portrayal of Daily Bugle editor-in-chief J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.

Simmons' role as Jameson is remembered as one of the most accurate portrayals of a comic book character in recent memory, and, with Spider-Man: Homecoming kicking off another series of web-slinging films, fans worry about someone else being cast in the role. Fortunately, it seems as though Simmons would be totally on board with lighting up that cigar one more time.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Simmons was asked about the possibility of taking on the role of Jameson again in the future. Despite the fact that he's now a part of the DC films, the actor quickly stated that there was nothing in his contract keeping him from running the Daily Bugle.

"It's not a contractual thing, no," Simmons told ET host Ash Crossan.

As the interview continued, Crossan echoed the thoughts of all comic fans, saying that it would probably be disappointing to see anyone but Simmons take on the role of J. Jonah Jameson. Could he possibly do it again in any of the upcoming Spider-Man films?

"Never say never," Simmons assured. "Obviously I had an amazing time with Sam Raimi on those movies. That was a great time, and huge for my career and my life. If there were an opportunity to revisit that..."

Simmons trailed off into joking about his age in comparison to Jameson's character, but it was evident that he hadn't closed the door on the possibility.
