Matt Murdock may have once been known as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, but the guy is known best as Daredevil. The blind vigilante is one whose brutal methods are done in the name of justice, but Daredevil’s violent retributions make him a feared foe to many. As such, the superhuman hero takes to the streets at night, using its dark cover to give him an edge and leave baddies bruised when they’re at their most vulnerable. However, it looks like the vigilante’s approach may change in The Defenders. Just take a look at these new set photos.

On Twitter, a slew of photos from The Defenders have been shared with fans, and a new set of Daredevil have audience talking. In the images, fans can see Charlie Cox in costume as the vigilante in a very brightly lit room. The modern locale looks shockingly white compared to the Daredevil’s dark attire, and he appears to be waiting on someone. Several fans have noted the scene appears to be incongruent with Daredevil’s solo series because of its lighting.

After all, Netflix does pride itself on a certain aesthetic, and Marvel’s projects have leant itself to shadowy styles. Iron Fist had some notably bright color palates, but The Defenders could be the first to really lighten things up. These photos also appear to be the first set pictures taken of the hero in costume. So far, most of Marvel’s adverts for The Defenders have shown Murdock in civilian attire with cuts adorning his face.

In fact, Daredevil is said to be the only hero in The Defenders who actually gets to wear a mask. Recently, Cox confirmed his character was awarded the privilege.

“Do you know what, when we filmed the first two seasons of Daredevil, it destroyed me. Defenders is slightly different because it has four of us. We can’t all be together all the time so there’s a lot more time off,” Cox told Boogaloo Radio. “The way it worked out is quite cool because since my character is the only one that has a mask, when we did action sequences they have to make sure they get the other three doing their bits because they could always use my stunt double.”

It seems less likely by the day that Iron Fist will get to don his traditional yellow-and-green garb in The Defenders, but fans will at least have Daredevil to fall back on. The vigilante’s striking costume is clearly get used, and audiences may even get to see it in a new light – literally.

Marvel’s The Defenders was developed by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez. The miniseries will also feature Sigourney Weaver as the villain, Alexandra (Sigourney Weaver), and several recurring guest stars from Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s Luke Cage, and Marvel’s Iron Fist, including Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, Scott Glenn as Stick, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.
