Edge Of Tomorrow 2 Title Revealed

The sequel to Edge of Tomorrow is one step closer to reality as director Dough Liman has revealed the film’s title.

Liman revealed that the title of the film will be a play on Edge of Tomorrow‘s rebranded title Live Die Repeat, which was used for the home media release.

“We have an amazing story! It’s incredible!,” Liman told Collider. “Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film. It will be called Live Die Repeat and Repeat.”

Star Tom Cruise was already known to be returning for the project, but Liman has now also confirmed that co-star Emily Blunt is looking to return as well.

“Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it,” Liman said. “The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an ‘if,’ it’s a ‘when’.”

Liman has set some high bars for the sequel to Edge of Tomorrow. He has called it a “sequel that’s a prequel,” a somewhat confounding statement that may relate to the film’s time travel mechanics, and said that the sequel will “revolutionize how people make sequels.”

Edge of Tomorrow opened on June 6, 2014, to approximately $28.8 million at 3,490 locations. In its lifetime, Edge of Tomorrow earned $100.2 million domestically and $270.3 million internationally, bringing its worldwide box office total to $370.5 million.

Edge of Tomorrow was acclaimed by critics and was generally well-regarded by those who saw it. Many believe the film’s box office total could have been greater if it had a stronger marketing campaign behind it. For home media release, the film was retitled Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow.

In Edge of Tomorrow, when Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight — and his death — over and over again. However, Cage’s fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.

Liman directed Edge of Tomorrow from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie, Jez Butterworth, and John-Henry Butterworth, based on the Japanese light novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.

Live Die Repeat And Repeat will be written by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse.

While fans are waiting on Live Die Repeat and Repeat, Tom Cruise will be busy launching the Universal Monsters shared cinematic universe in The Mummy, opening June 9, 2017.
