No weapon in cinema history is as iconic as Star Wars‘ lightsaber. As soon as old Ben Kenobi opens the chest containing his former apprentice’s blade, everything changes. Of course, the original trilogy only utilizes four different lightsabers, as there aren’t a bunch of Jedi and Sith around to battle each other. However, things are very different in the prequels, sequels, and everything in between. It feels like everyone and their mother has a lightsaber they can call upon when times get tough. Not every weapon in Star Wars is cut from the same cloth, though, as some look unique, while others feel generic.

When it comes to lightsabers, Anakin Skywalker’s blade that he creates ahead of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is the cream of the crop. It gets more run than any other, as Luke Skywalker and Rey Skywalker also wield the weapon. Unfortunately, not every lightsaber has that sort of track record. Here are the four coolest lightsabers only seen once in Star Wars.
4) Qui-Gon Jinn’s Lightsaber

The prequel trilogy has a monumental task: showing the Jedi Order at the height of its power. Things start out slowly at the beginning of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, with the movie focusing on two Jedi, Obi-Wan Kenobi and his master, Qui-Gon Jinn. While Obi-Wan opts to wield a blue lightsaber, Qui-Gon paves the way for Luke by going with a green Kyber crystal.
The design of Qui-Gon’s lightsaber is different from the other Jedi’s, using a lot more black than silver. It’s fair to assume that the darker hilt speaks to the master’s reluctance to embrace the Order’s rigid ways, being open to embracing the Force in whatever way he sees fit. Unfortunately, Qui-Gon doesn’t get to explain himself because he dies at the hands of Darth Maul in his first appearance.
3) Dark Rey’s Switch Saber

Rey struggles to find her place in the galaxy after leaving Jakku behind and helping the Resistance take down the First Order. Not even learning from Luke gives her much clarity, so when she faces off against Kylo Ren on the remains of the second Death Star, her mind is all over the place. And things get even worse for Rey when an evil version of herself shows up and wants to fight.
Dark Rey’s presence alone should be enough to strike fear in the real Jedi, but her lightsaber adds even more terror, being a switch saber that allows the villain to use one or two blades depending on the situation. Since Rey never embraces the Dark Side, opting to join the Skywalker family, the lightsaber only gets one appearance.
2) Baylan Skoll’s Great Lightsaber

Order 66 kills countless Jedi, but they aren’t the ones to suffer the worst fate. The remaining members of the Order have to go into hiding and constantly fight for their lives. While some, like Ahsoka Tano, opt to continue to fight the good fight, others go down a darker path, such as Baylan Skoll, who becomes a mercenary working for Grand Admiral Thrawn’s ally, Morgan Elsbeth.
Skoll’s only appearance comes in Season 1 of Star Wars: Ahsoka as he attempts to stop the titular Force user from thwarting Elsbeth’s plans. By his side the whole time is his trusty lightsaber, which has a unique orange-red colored blade. It’s unclear how he lands on the color scheme, but the next season of Ahsoka could provide insight.
1) Savage Opress’ Double-Bladed Lightsaber

The animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars features its fair share of lightsabers. Most of them are generic green and blue ones, but Count Dooku isn’t going to let his apprentice, Savage Opress, run around looking like a schmuck. Like his brother before him, Opress chooses to use a double-bladed red lightsaber to make life difficult for the Jedi.
When Opress links up with his brother, he continues to use the powerful weapon, even pulling it out when Darth Sidious shows up. Unfortunately, Opress can’t handle the strength of the Dark Lord of the Sith, ensuring that his weapon becomes nothing but a footnote in Star Wars’ history.
