Henry Cavill has a number of irons in the fire, including projects like In the Grey, Enola Holmes 3, and his anticipated Warhammer 40k universe over at Amazon. That’s only a few of the big projects on his docket, however, and unfortunately, one of those projects could have to be delayed after a reported injury on the set. As this project is a reboot of a much-loved fantasy property, you can understand why fans are incredibly disappointed.

A report from Deadline states that Henry Cavill was injured during pre-production of Amazon MGM Studios’ Highlander film. Apparently, he was training on the set when the injury occurred, but it’s not known what the injury was. As a result of the injury, production is likely to be delayed until the top of next year (2026).
What Is Highlander?

Highlander originally won the hearts of fans when it debuted in 1986, with Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery starring as Connor MacLeod and Ramirez, respectively. The film told the story of immortal warriors battling throughout time, and would get a sequel in the form of Highlander II: The Quickening in 1991.
That was followed by Highlander: The Final Dimension in 1994, but also during this point, a new Highlander television series was airing, featuring Adrian Paul in the lead role. Paul played the role of Duncan MacLeod, who was also immortal and a member of Clan MacLeod, and the series would run for six seasons. Eventually, the two main stars would collide in Highlander: Endgame in 2000.
While there have been other smaller series and animated adaptations of Highlander over time, Endgame was the last major entry in the franchise before the announcement of the high-profile reboot featuring Cavill.
A Long Road to the Big Screen
It’s been a rather long journey to the big screen for the Highlander reboot, as Cavill was first attached to the project back in 2021. Since then, the project has had its share of starts and stops, but Highlander seemed to be hitting its stride earlier this year as a project that would actually become a reality sooner than later.
After Highlander locked in its star, it locked in a big-time director in Chad Stahelski and had a screenplay written by Kerry Williamson, and recently the film had started to fill out the cast. Now we know it was already in pre-production, and while the delay is unfortunate, it seems Lionsgate will shift things back up to full speed next year, as long as Cavill is fully recovered. We wish Cavill all the best and hope for a speedy recovery.
