It would be incredible to see these eight omega-level mutants appear in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot, bringing some of Marvel’s strongest characters ever into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The development of the MCU’s X-Men movie is well underway, and anticipation is rising after the announcement that Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier will helm the reboot. However, nothing official has yet been confirmed about casting for Marvel Studios’ X-Men, so we’re not sure which mutants from Marvel Comics will be reimagined for the MCU.

Even though we’ve received no official announcement, it seems very likely that a number of omega-level mutants from Marvel Comics will be brought into the MCU. First referred to as “Class Omega” in 1986’s Uncanny X-Men #208 by Chris Claremont, omega-level mutants are those who harbor the most powerful abilities, and have almost limitless potential when developing and expanding these power-sets. Jonathan Hickman later provided an official definition, stating that an omega-level mutant is one whose “dominant power is deemed to register – or reach – an undefinable upper limit of that power’s specific classification.”
Over 30 omega-level mutants have been confirmed in Marvel Comics, including some central members of the X-Men team. It seems unlikely that this many mutants of incomprehensible strength will debut in the MCU’s upcoming X-Men reboot, but it’s very possible that a handful of omega-level mutants will be seen. These eight – including a couple wildcards – are the omega-level mutants we’re most likely to see in Marvel Studios’ X-Men, and they could change the power-levels of the MCU forever.
8) Bobby Drake’s Iceman

Shawn Ashmore’s Bobby Drake never got the attention he deserved in Fox’s X-Men franchise, but Marvel Studios can redeem him. In Marvel Comics, Iceman was a founding member of the X-Men, so he should have a prominent role in the MCU’s X-Men reboot. This could also establish him as an omega-level mutant, showcasing his thermokinesis and hydrokinesis much more than Fox ever did. His abilities to produce an ice armor, turn himself into water and reconstitute himself elsewhere, use water to increase his mass, size, and strength, and survive in a gaseous, water vapor state have never been explored.
7) Gabriel Summers’ Vulcan

While it’s possible that Scott Summers and Alex Summers could appear as Cyclops and Havok, respectively, it would be great to see the forgotten Summers brother also have a part to play. Gabriel Summers is the only omega-level member of his mutant family as the antihero Vulcan. Katherine Summers was pregnant with Gabriel when she was killed by the Shi’ar, but he was later adopted by Moira MacTaggert. Vulcan’s ability allows him to psionically manipulate massive amounts of energy, even being able to harness the energy emitted by other formidable mutants, so he’d be an unpredictable addition to the MCU.
6) Jean Grey’s Marvel Girl

Fox never managed to get Jean Grey right, so there’s pressure on Marvel Studios to fully redeem her. Originally operating as Marvel Girl, Jean Grey is a telepath and telekinetic whose powers rival even that of Professor X. She can use these powers to communicate with any living thing, even animals, and manipulate the minds and memories of others at will. At her strongest, she was able to bond with the cosmic Phoenix Force, which gave her even more unbridled power, and could make her one of Marvel Studios’ most powerful characters, should she be reimagined for the MCU.
5) Ororo Munroe’s Storm

We’ve already seen a variant of Storm in the MCU, operating as What If…? season 3’s Goddess of Thunder, so her live-action MCU debut has already been teased. Similarly to other mutant characters, Fox never tapped into the full extent of Storm’s omega-level weather manipulation powers. Her ancestors dabbled in witchcraft and magic, while her mutant abilities are almost god-like, so her new live-action depiction should tap into the more cinematic, visually-spectacular, and awe-inspiring aspects of her powers. As well as creating monumental storms and weather phenomena, Storm has many more powers that have never been explored on-screen.
4) Jamie Braddock’s Monarch

Brian Braddock’s Captain Britain has long been rumored to join the MCU, so his twin sister, Betsy Braddock’s Psylocke, could also appear. Betsy isn’t the only mutant in the Braddock family, however, and Marvel has the perfect opportunity to debut a mutant never before seen on-screen, the older Braddock sibling, Jamie. As an omega-level mutant, Monarch can manipulate reality in his surrounding area. He perceives the universe as a mass of quantum strings that he can alter at will. Betsy once described her brother as getting “the full scope” of power, which would be brilliant to see in the MCU.
3) Max Eisenhardt’s Magneto

The X-Men’s first and most powerful antagonist, Magneto, is almost a certainty for the MCU’s upcoming X-Men reboot. The iconic villain is the Master of Magnetism, but this doesn’t just mean playing around with metal objects. Magneto can manipulate magnetic fields, emit electromagnetic pulses, protect himself with his own magnetic forcefield, can produce magnetic wormholes for transportation, and can use his powers to resist telepathic attacks. Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender did a great job at delivering Magneto in Fox’s X-Men franchise, but the villain could be even more comic-accurate and powerful in the MCU.
2) Charles Xavier’s Professor X

Of course, perhaps the most notable omega-level mutant that Marvel Studios needs to introduce in the upcoming X-Men reboot is Charles Xavier’s Professor X. As the founder of the X-Men, Professor X is a necessity for the MCU, and he’ll be at the forefront of Marvel’s mutant-centric storylines. His telepathic powers are unmatched, he can manipulate the minds and memories of others, and even possess the minds of other people, while he can also use Cerebro to expand his reach. This combined with his genius-level intellect makes him one of the most exciting upcoming additions to the MCU.
1) Franklin Richards’ Powerhouse

One of Marvel Comics’ most powerful omega-level mutants has actually already been introduced to the MCU, as Franklin Richards debuted in 2025’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The son of Reed Richards and Sue Storm on Earth 828, Franklin Richards is imbued with the Power Cosmic, which is a change from his Marvel Comics origin as a reality-warping mutant. Franklin could still be revealed to be a mutant in the MCU, and could have a significant role in Marvel’s future X-Men movies as Powerhouse. He can make any thought or desire come to fruition, and can rearrange matter at will, even to the point of creating his own universes, so it will be great to see Franklin Richards grow and develop in the MCU for years to come.
