Prime Video subscribers can now stream the first four movies in the Bourne franchise. The original Bourne trilogy of The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum, starring Matt Damon in the lead role as a man with amnesia trying to uncover his identity, as well as the Jeremy Renner-led The Bourne Legacy, started streaming on the Amazon streaming platform on September 1st. Unfortunately for fans of the hit action thriller film series, Prime Video is not streaming the franchise’s most recent installment, Jason Bourne, which is available on HBO Max and Peacock, or the television spinoff series Treadstone, which can be streamed on Hulu and Peacock.
Why You Should Watch the Bourne Franchise
The Bourne franchise adopted a gritty, realistic approach to the spy thriller genre, and in doing so set a new precedent for action thrillers that helped shape those that followed it. The films stand out for their use of a shaky cam style, something that helps immerse the viewer in the chaos of Bourne‘s world, and their high-budget and action-packed fight and chase scenes that rely on real stunts and practical effects over CGI to create realistic and visceral sequences. All of that is balanced with a well-paced, multi-layered story centered on a gripping mystery and great character development that brings plenty of emotion to the action-packed series.
The original Bourne trilogy remains some of the best action movies today and all hold “Certified Fresh” critics’ scores of 80% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes and Popcornmeter scores of 90% or higher. The Renner-led The Bourne Legacy, which holds a 56% critics’ score and 58% audience rating, faltered a bit in comparison to the franchise’s three earlier installments but still managed to expand the Bourne universe and bring strong performances from its cast.
