While the TRON franchise has been in limbo since the lukewarm reception of Tron: Legacy, Disney still has high hopes for the franchise, and it will play a big part in their upcoming plans for their Theme Park empire.

Disney has launched a successful and well received TRON attraction at their Shanghai Disneyland location, the TRON Lightcycle Power Run. There were already rumors that the attraction would be making its way stateside, and now sources are saying that it could be coming to multiple parks. WDW News Today sources are saying that budget and preliminary design teams for Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts have flown out to Shanghai to get started on the process, which is scheduled to hit Tomorrowland sometime before October 1st, 2021.

That will coincide with the 50th-anniversary celebration, where every tentpole of Disney’s empire will be getting new additions. The TRON Lightcycle Power Run is currently planned to operate where the Tomorrowland Speedway is located, but that can always change, especially this early in the process.

As for Disneyland, the Star Wars Launch Bay is the proposed site, as Disney wants the coaster to take advantage of the Tomorrowland skyline. Again, that location could change, but either way you can expect it to debut along with Disney World’s version.

You can see what the ride experience is like up close in the video above.

All of this aligns with some renewed interest in the TRON property, one that Disney hasn’t formerly announced but hasn’t let go of yet either. TRON Legacy director Joseph Kosinski recently described their plans for the sequel to Legacy, saying “The movie was called, “TRON: Ascension”, I think that’s out there. I think we got the script to about 80%. We were in good shape. .. What I’m excited about is the concept, which is an invasion movie from inside the machine coming out as opposed to one we’ve usually seen. So we hinted at that at the end of Legacy with Quorra coming out, but the idea for Ascension was a movie that was, the first act was in the real world, the second act was in the world of TRON, or multiple worlds of TRON, and the third act was totally in the real world.”

The next TRON entry currently has no release date.
