So far, the filmmakers behind The Wolverine, James Mangold's X-Men Origins sequel that adapts Chris Claremont and Frank Miller's run on the character, have steadfastly maintained that the film will stand on its own; you don't need to have seen any of the previous X-Men films, or even X-Men Origins: Wolverine for the film to work, fans have been reassured. But now a rumor is suggesting that Logan might meet up with Jean Grey in the film--in fact, the rumor is that former Bond Girl Famke Janssen, who played Jean in X-Men and X2: X-Men United, has already filmed a cameo in the movie. We've Got This Covered reports, "we've learnt that Famke Janssen flew into Sydney last week to shoot a cameo for the film. This news comes after Janssen hinted at the possibility of reprising her role as Jean Grey in an X-Men film while on the press tour for Taken 2 at the start of October." Of course, up until now, the smart money has been that Janssen, as well as Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen and possibly even The Wolverine star Hugh Jackman would appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the upcoming sequel to X-Men: First Class, which revolves around a fair amount of time travel and sci-fi madness and which is adapted from a comics story in which Wolverine played a key role. If Janssen is to play a role in that film, and has filmed a cameo in The Wolverine, it might suggest that the Mangold film is somewhat less stand-alone than we've been led to believe.
