Updated: The original report erroneously reported that a DVD release of this film had been paired with the 1970s sequel Captain America: Death Too Soon. That was based on bad information, and we've fixed it below.

The folks over at Shout! Factory, the same video-release house responsible for a number of Marvel Comics motion comics videos, are releasing Captain America, the 1990 version starring Matt Salinger, to Blu-ray on May 21. Featuring a retrospective interview with Salinger and director Albert Pyun, the Blu-ray is the first Hi-Def release of the film, which never even hit DVD until 2011. A recent release of the 1970s Captain America film starring Reb Brown came out shortly after that, pairing it with Captain America II: Death Too Soon. No word yet on when and if those will get a Blu-ray release as well. Check out the official description and trailer for the Blu-ray release below.

"To Captain America, wherever he is. We're all back in the fight." Long ago, Steve Rogers (Matt Salinger) was a true American hero, a brave super soldier created by scientists to help the Allied Forces fight for freedom in World War II. But during a battle with the sinister Red Skull (Scott Paulin), he was lost, entombed in ice. Decades later, his body has been found and revived and Steve must again don the mantle of Captain America to help save the President of the United States (Ronny Cox) — and the world — from his arch-nemesis once and for all. For the first time, director Albert Pyun's 1990 cult classic is presented in widescreen and in astonishing high-definition!
