Lots of 'Thor 2' news going on lately. And why not? The original film has brought in close to $500 million worldwide, which means Marvel Studios needs to get a sequel on the docket and keep momentum. First up, the search for a new director. With Kenneth Branagh not returning for the 2nd film, who is the frontrunner to take the controls? According to Variety, Patty Jenkins is in talks to direct 'Thor 2.' Best known for directing 'Monster,' with Charlize Theron, Jenkins is well regarded in the industry. She also recently picked up an Emmy Nomination for directing the pilot for AMC's 'The Killing,' It was thought that 'Game of Thrones' Brian Kirk was the likely choice for 'Thor 2', but that apparently didn't work out. Also, EW talked with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said the sequel will incorporate The Nine Worlds: "[Thor 2 will] primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds." Fans of Thor will know that the first film featured scenes in Asgard, Migard, and Jotuheim. As someone who thought the love interest angle in 'Thor' was just horrible, I'm not too pumped about expanding on that angle. However, the scenes away from Earth were incredible. Anything to expand on that storyline works for me.
