Later tonight, the sixth season of Game of Thrones will make its debut, and many are wondering if the premiere will become the most-watched episode in the series.
When HBO's fantasy series, based on George R.R. Martin's novels, premiered in 2011, it pulled in 2.8 million total viewers. It was the series' least-watched episode, but when the first season's finale aired, good word of mouth pushed its viewership up by a million.
From the first season to the fifth, Game of Thrones has seen its average viewership increase each season.
Season 1: 3.330 million total viewers
Season 2: 4.898 million (+47.1 percent)
Season 3: 6.442 million (+31.5 percent)
Season 4: 8.978 million (+39.4 percent)
Season 5: 9.513 million (+6 percent)
As for the highest rated episode, "that honor goes to the fifth season's premiere, which grabbed 10.461 million overall audience members after seven days of delayed viewing."
