Entertainment Weekly

has reported that Ghostbusters 3 and a third installment in the Men In Black series are in development. The announcement came during a presentation from Sony Entertainment president Rory Bruer during the movie industry's annual ShoWest convention in Las Vegas.

The Ghostbusters three-quel had been rumored ever since Ghostbusters 2 tore up the box office almost 20 years ago. However, trying to get all of the franchises' stars together for a shooting schedule became difficult, and the project was scrapped. Ghostbusters 1 and 2 director Ivan Reitman is reported to return to helm the third film.

Fellow busters Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson will likely join Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd. Just how much of a role each actor will play in the film has yet to be determined. One Ghostbusters alum who will not be returning is Rick Moranis, who has retired from acting and refused to take part in 2008's Ghostbusters video game.

The Office's Gene Supnitsky and Lee Eisenberg wrote the screenplay for the new Ghostbusters film, which will depict the original squad training a new team of Ghostbusters.

Men in Black 3 is in a much earlier stage of development. Not only does the film not have a screenwriter, it may not even have Will Smith. Sony has refused to comment on Smith's status on the project. Some websites have hinted, if not borderline begging, that MIB costar Tommy Lee Jones is on board, however.
