DreamWorks as cast Danish actor Pilou Asbæk as Batou in Ghost in the Shell, costarring with Scarlett Johansson as Major Motoko Kusanagi, Variety reports.
Base on Masmune Shirow’s original manga and the classic 1995 animated film adaptation, Ghost in the Shell follows Section 9, the cyberterrorism arm of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission, in a cyberpunk future where nearly all humans have at least some amount of cybernetic implants.
Asbæk’s Batou is Kusanagi’s second-in-command, and the most formidable physical combatant in the unit. Asbæk is best known for his role on The Borgias, and has worked with Johannsson on Lucy. He’s also set to play Euron Greyjoy in the upcoming season of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Ghost in the Shell is being directed by Rupert Sanders, from a script by Jonathan Herman. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing.
Ghost in the Shell opens March 31, 2017.
