When you are part of an extensive franchise like Star Wars, you are bound to find yourself at odds with some storylines. The sci-fi franchise has more than seven films, dozens of books, and more comics than fans can count. Some characters may not get due space in such a crowded series, and actors can't be expected to love everything their roles are subjected to. Just ask Mark Hamill, and you'll see; Apparently, the iconic Star Wars actor had a few problems with where Luke Skywalker's storyline was heading in The Last Jedi.
Recently, the actor opened up about his initial reaction to the next Star Wars film with Vanity Fair, and Hamill admitted it was a disgruntled one.
"I at one point had to say to Rian, 'I pretty much fundamentally disagree with every choice you've made for this character. Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest, and my job now is to take what you've created and do my best to realize your vision," Hamill said.
Continuing, Hamill went on to say he is on-board with both theatrical cuts of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. The actor admits he is partial to his ideas even if they aren't always the best.
"I have thousands of really terrible ideas I would love to share with you, among which you might—just law of averages—find a nugget of something and go, 'That's not as terrible as the other 35 you just told us.'"
For diehard fans, they may not be too surprised to hear about Hamill's original hesitance towards The Last Jedi. After all, the trailer does show that Luke Skywalker is in a dark place these days. After being in self-imposed exile for sometime, the hero was seen in the film's first teaser saying it was time for the Jedi to end. Hamill has been a staunch advocate of the order for years now, so there was bound to be some conflict on that front.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the second film in the new Star Wars sequel trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The film will deal with Luke training Rey to become a, and possibly the last, Jedi. Meanwhile, the Resistance, including Poe Dameron and First Order defector Finn, continues to fight against the First Order, led by General Hux, while Supreme Leader Snoke and his Dark Side follower Kylo Ren continue their mysterious plot.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is written and directed by Rian Johnson and stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Benicio Del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran.
