'Star Wars: The Last Jedi': Rey Training Featurette Released

A new Star Wars: The Last Jedi featurette has been released, showcasing the training star Daisy Ridley endures to nail her performance as Rey.

In the video above, several stars are seen training, and there may be a couple of mild The Last Jedi spoilers packed into the descriptions of what they are training for. First up, Ridley describes how far she has come with her training. "Physically, I never really have to push myself that hard, and stamina was, you're like, 'Oh my god!'" Ridley said. " It's like a psychological thing, knowing you can do more and more and more."

Director Rian Johnson's description, however, reveals how Rey comes to be swinging the lightsaber around in all of the previews for Episode XIII. "Daisy is training for a scene where she is on the island and she has a moment to herself when she is practicing with her staff," Johnson said. "And then she realizes, 'Why am I training with this staff? I have look Skywalker's lightsaber in my satchel.'"

Captain Phasma actress Gwendoline Christie is also pushing herself for battle scenes which are particular difficult thanks to her shiny suit. "This is the hardest physical thing I've done yet," Christie said. "The suit can be very restrictive just to move in, just to walk in. You do the move and you think, 'Gosh, it is lunch time yet?'"

Then, Boyega comes in with what may be a spoiler as well, saying the battle is a moment where "Finn and Phasma end up face to face."

The villainous Kylo Ren is no exception to the training, of course. Adam Driver is seen intensely training for battle scenes in the upcoming film, as well. "It's just rigorous, in a great way," Driver said.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 16, 2017.
