The filmmakers behind Solo: A Star Wars Story describe the movie as a neo-western, a heist movie. But the man who helped make the Star Wars universe what it is today has something more romantic in mind.
"To me, this is a love story between Han and Chewie," said Kasdan. "Their relationship has always been my favorite part of the saga, and the fact that only Han understands what Chewie is saying, I find a very funny possibility for comedy."
While discussing the film with Entertainment Weekly, there was even a hint that we'd see a romantic-comedy staple: the meet-cute.
"Wookiees have so many positive qualities," Kasdan added. "But what they don’t do is make it easy for you to get in."
"Well, I think with anyone you meet in these tough worlds, trust doesn’t come easily, and both of them are very strong willed," he teased. But when it comes to Chewbacca actor Joonas Suotamo, Ehrenreich is a big fan.
"Joonas is a really funny guy, and he also brings a lot to the role," Ehrenreich said. "It’s clear when you’re up close and seeing him do it just how much Wookiee craft he really has to do, knowing how to move in the suit to convey the right things. He’s got a big heart and is a great guy."
Fans will got a glimpse of a big action sequence involving Han and Chewie in the trailer, which is further elaborated on in the new photos.
The footage shows a big, double-sided train moving through snowy mountains on a new planet in the Star Wars galaxy. The train is called the Conveyex, and Han and Chewie are proving themselves to a gang of smugglers by stealing something on board.
The train robbery is a classic western trope that should be entertaining in the context of the Star Wars galaxy. Hopefully we learn more about what the duo are after as we get closer to the film's premiere.
Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres in theaters on May 25th.
