After initial images of the Monte Carlo-esque location of Canto Bight debuted in Vanity Fair, many Star Wars fans have expected the locale to consume an entire planet in The Last Jedi. Based on a description of a new toy that will be hitting shelves on Force Friday, the location could actually exist as a city on a planet known as "Cantonica." You can check out an image of the toy over on Reddit.
The description on the back of a Canto Bight Police Speeder is as follows:
"Anyone attempting to escape the law on Cantonica had best move fast, as the police force of Canto Bight has at its disposal these swift, lightweight pursuit craft."
With Canto Bight often being referred to as a planet and with this new information about Cantonica, there are still details yet to be discovered about how the two relate to one another. Potentially, we could see a relationship between the two locations that's similar to how Cloud City relates to Bespin, with the mining community hovering far above the planet but still having a direct connection to it.
Based on images and behind-the-scenes footage we've seen of Canto Bight, anyone attempting to outrun the authorities is probably doing so after having struck it rich, with Rian Johnson describing the location as "a little James Bond–ish, a little To Catch a Thief." He added, "It was an interesting challenge, portraying luxury and wealth in this universe."
As some of the locations featured in the teaser for The Last Jedi appeared to be bleak and desolate, the filmmaker wanted to offer a different interpretation of the galaxy, explaining, "I was thinking, O.K., let's go ultra-glamour. Let's create a playground, basically, for rich a**holes."
Cantonica is potentially the second new planet we've learned about, in addition to the previously revealed desert planet Crait, which we first saw in the film's teaser.
We'll get an even better look at the exciting planet when The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the second film in the new Star Wars sequel trilogy that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The film will deal with Luke training Rey to become a, and possibly the last, Jedi. Meanwhile, the Resistance, including Poe Dameron and First Order defector Finn, continues to fight against the First Order, led by General Hux, while Supreme Leader Snoke and his Dark Side follower Kylo Ren continue their mysterious plot.
