When a public figure passes away, their fans pay their respects in a variety of ways, with many choosing to create art inspired by the figure. Following the sudden passing of Carrie Fisher, the public grieved together, with an outpouring of support for her friends and family. Nine months after her passing, one farmer in Indiana has paid his respects with a massive corn maze to celebrate the actress' seminal role as Princess Leia, per the Evansville Courier & Press.

Jeremy Goebel of Evansville, IN works at Goebel Farms in the sleepy Midwest town, which regularly celebrates all sorts of pop culture properties with their seasonal corn maze. While to those inexperienced with crafting such a massive tribute could assume such an endeavor is an incredibly labor-inducive process, potentially involving removing stalks in a precise fashion, things are no longer done this way. Luckily, Goebel revealed it only takes some time on Photoshop and a GPS device to get the job done.
"I'm not really an artist," Goebel told the outlet. "And I'm probably not a perfect maze artist. I just trace it out and try to add in enough dead ends and turnarounds."
Goebel's methods involve taking a photo of the subject and tracing it in Photoshop, adding in various twists, turns and dead-ends. From there, it's all in the hands of the farming equipment and GPS.
"It tells the planter to leave rows on and off as it drives down the field," Goebel explained. To plant the seeds for all the corn, it takes around 40 minutes.
During the farm's initial years of bringing mazes to life, they cut the stalks in mid-August to create their specific patterns. Now that they use GPS systems, they plant the maze in February.
"I've always been a Star Wars fan and I just wanted to pay tribute to Carrie Fisher," Goebel explained of his inspiration.
For those inclined to visit, you'll also be treated to hay rides, pumpkin patches and cider slushies.
