Carrie Fisher Self-Rescuing Princess Leia T from Her Universe Benefits Mental Health Charity

The late Carrie Fisher was an inspiration to millions on the big screen in her decades-spanning role as Princess and then General Leia in Star Wars. The actress gave generations of fans hope, and showed girls and boys alike that sometimes it’s the Princess that does the rescuing. Her Universe, the geeky clothing and accessory company for girls and women that was founded by another Star Wars actress, Ashley Eckstein, has just launched a new t-shirt honoring that Self-Rescuing Princess.

But the actress herself, along with her actress mother Debbie Reynolds, who passed away just one day after her daughter in late December 2016, was also a staunch advocate of mental health awareness. As someone who admitted to her own struggles with mental health (even her famed dog Gary was a service animal), Fisher and Reynolds both took things a step farther, working with Mental Health advocacy and support organizations and charities, and speaking out against the stigma of those suffering from any mental health issues.

With that in mind, Her Universe launches the “Star Wars Princess Leia Self-Rescuing Princess T-Shirt,” a new design that features Fisher as Leia looking stoic and assured (as seen in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope) with a multicolored series of stripes overlaid over the image and the words “Self-Rescuing Pringcess” across the torso. The new shirt, an online exclusive sold only at the very recently relaunched HerUniverse.com, sells for $22.90, and proceeds from the sales of the shirt are being donated to The Thalians, a mental health awareness charity that was once headed by Debbie Reynolds. The Thalinas mission “is to rais the funds it will take to educate and enlighten the world about mental illness, thereby eliminating the stigma attached to it,” the website says.

With this new shirt, fans can rock a positive message from one of their favorite characters while also honoring one of their favorite actors and individuals. This way, Fisher and Reynolds continue to impact the world positively, even after leaving it physically.
