Han Solo Star Wars Movie: 5 Things We Expect to See
The Star Wars universe has expanded into Star Wars standalone stories, and the first film in the [...]
The Star Wars Underworld
Remember that the Han Solo we met in Star Wars: A New Hope was a roguish smuggler - the type who shot Greedo first in that cantina. From A New Hope all the way through The Force Awakens, Han Solo had a serious reputation in the Star Wars underworld, and we expect to finally see him in his element.
For years, Star Wars fans have been calling for a movie or TV series set in the franchise's underworld of gangsters, crooks, mercenaries, and bounty hunters, and this Han Solo movie is the first real opportunity. Don't expect Lucasfilm to waste it.
...That includes appearance from franchise icons like Boba Fett and Jabba The Hut.
prevnextSmart Banter
Given the talent involved (Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Lawrence Kasdan, and his son Jon), we expect to see a Han Solo movie that is whip-smart with the dialogue, character banter, and humor.
That includes some Guy Ritchie-style scenes of gangsters, killers, and crooks talking shop; some great Cast Away-style humor of Han bouncing banter off of Chewie; and some great romantic flirtation between Han and the female lead (Emilia Clarke).
Han Solo has a great legacy of wit and humor in the Star Wars saga, and we expect to see that represented onscreen.
prevnextA Great Buddy-Heist Adventure
A Han Solo movie with more noble characters would be a "buddy-cop movie," but in this context, it's more like a "buddy heist movie."
Given what we know about Han by the time A New Hope starts, we expect this solo story to feature a smuggler up to no good - pulling a job that offers we, the viewers, and enjoyable adventure along the way. Not only do we expect a buddy heist comedy adventure - we expect one that helps demonstrate how characters like Han, Chewie, and Lando ended up with the bond they share in the Original Trilogy.
That means Lando's silver tongue, Han's hustler's charm, and Chewie's muscle all getting spotlight moments in the effort to pull the heist off.

Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover have challenging tasks ahead of them, taking on iconic Star Wars characters like Han Solo and Lando Calrissian, respectively.
Glover is a much more known element than Ehrenreich in most fans' minds; at this point, they're comfortable enough with Glover playing Lando, but the Han Solo role is one Ehrenreich is going to have to earn.
After seeing young Alden Ehrenreich's work in recent films like Blue Jasmine and Hail Caesar! we're pretty confident that he has the talent to take on the character Harrison Ford built.
prevnextRogue Cameos
These Star Wars standalone films need to stick together as they're getting out of the gate and establishing themselves, and even though they have the word "standalone" in their tagline, there are ways they can stand together and stand alone.
Given the similar eras of time in both Han Solo and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and the underground/black market world the characters of both films inhabit, we expect to see some kind of crossover cameo. It could be Jyn Erso, Saul Gerrera, Chirrut Îmwe, or Cassian Andor that Han runs into; or perhaps someone more nefarious like director Orson Krennic that Han must deal with. Whatever the case, we expect fans jumping into this Star Wars Standalone Story world will get a fun Easter egg connection.
