If you think you’re the best at keeping secrets, then think again. When it comes to making sure things stay on the down-low, Laura Dern has become an expert. The Hollywood actress has been sharpening her skills lately thanks to her upcoming role in the Star Wars universe.

So far, no one knows anything about Dern’s role in Star Wars: The Last Jedi save for the actress and Lucasfilm higher-ups. Of course, other cast members have insight into the secretive role, but stars like John Boyega and Daisy Ridley are also well-versed in keeping their mouths shut. In the past month or so, the latter actor has found herself ambushed by the likes of Josh Gadd and Dame Judy Dench over Rey’s part in the eighth saga flick.
And, when it comes to Dern, the actress has remained just as tight-lipped. In a recent interview with Yahoo, the star admitted she won’t tell a word about her role to any of her family – not even her kids.
“It’s hard in our own house. ‘Mom, you can at least tell us who you play.’ I’d never put them in that position,” she said. For Dern, the stress her children would be put under if they had that kind of information would be a lot to handle. And, for the actress herself, she would be anxious to know her kids may spill her secret accidentally.
However, Dern does think her kids will see their mom in a whole new light once they learn who her Star Wars character is. “I was hoping for a little more respect. I’m hoping when they see the movie, I’ll get a little more. A point,” she joked.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release.
The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
