A rare trailer for Star Wars: Revenge of the Jedi was unearthed by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences from their Academy Film Archive today, in honor of the 39th anniversary of the first Star Wars film's release.

The trailer shows familiar still images from Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, but uses the alternate name for the title card. The story goes that the film was going to be called Return of the Jedi, but creator George Lucas thought that was "too weak" sounding, and changed it to Revenge. Later, after the teaser trailer as well as several thousand posters had been released with the Revenge of the Jedi name, Lucas decided it was anathema to the Jedi way, and returned to... Return.

The trailer can be seen above, and you can pretend it's the olden days, before December 1982. Under any title, today's a great day to watch a Star Wars movie. May 25, 1983 is also the release date of Return of the Jedi, making this a double-dose Star Wars birthday.
