With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, fans got to learn the details of how daring the journey to get the Death Star plans to the Rebellion, and now Kieron Gillen’s work on the Star Wars comic book will get to explore Luke, Leia, and Han’s connection to those who came before them.

Gillen and artist Salvador Larocca will take over the Marvel Comics title this fall with issue #38, which takes place after the events of the original movie but before The Empire Strikes Back. In Gillen’s run, the heroic trio will visit Jedha, the moon that was destroyed following Jyn’s reunion with Saw Gerrera in Rogue One.

When speaking with ABC News, Gillen explained, “Luke took a million to one shot [blowing up the Death Star], but he didn’t realize in a very real way how many people died to let him take that shot. And that’s a really inspiring thing.” He added, “That’s going to drive him harder than ever.”

As compared to the characters we saw in Rogue One, Luke is relatively new to the Rebellion and the idea of the Force, with characters like Jyn or Cassian having devoted much of their life to bring down the Empire. The stage is set for Luke to have a passionate emotional connection with those who gave their lives to bring down the Death Star.

“We basically get a Rogue One-Star Wars intersection,” Gillen revealed, “Because I really just want to see Luke respond to discovering people like Jyn, discovering the people who led to him being able to take a shot at the Death Star.”

“Luke is desperately seeking the Force and of course it’s one of the holiest cities in the universe, and it’s been blown up,” Gillen points out. “The key image is Luke standing in the hole where the Death Star blew it.”

In addition to Luke having an appreciation for those who came before him, Gillen explained that, with Leia having recently witnessed the destruction of Alderaan and her allies who lived there, she should also experience many emotions.

“For me, that was one of the things I completely got when I watched Rogue One. It’s like, ‘I wonder what Luke and Leia make of this?’” he said.

We can next see Luke and Leia when The Last Jedi lands in theaters December 15.
